Michael Gordon, MD
Welcome!
Dr. Michael Gordon trained at Johns Hopkins University and USC Spinal Cord
Injury Center, and has been at the leading edge in spinal surgical technology
since he began practice in Newport Beach in 1987. He specializes in a
range of spinal surgeries from minimally invasive to complex deformities
of the cervical and lumbar spine.
Having performed more than 8,000 spinal surgeries, Dr. Gordon has extensive
experience in complex reconstructive spinal instrumentation surgery of
the cervical and lumbar spine as well as disk replacement, adult deformity
and degenerative scoliosis. For patients with disk herniations Dr. Gordon
has performed more than 1,500 outpatient minimally-invasive spinal surgeries.
He has been a clinical instructor for Medtronic/Kyphon, and has consulted
for several national spinal instrumentation companies. He has assisted
in the design of spinal pedical screw implants and currently is the only
surgeon at Hoag Hospital expert in minimally invasive Kyphoplasty fracture
treatment.
Dr. Gordon has delivered many community education seminars – look

Dr. Gordon has three adult children (Harvard, Williams College, Brown University)
and lives with his wife in Newport Beach. He and his wife are founding
members of the Sage Hill School in Orange County. His wife, Ellen, is
a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a specialty in adolescent
eating disorders. In his leisure time he is an avid photographer, skier
and pianist. His twin daughters have careers in teaching and business,
and his son is an aspiring Broadway actor.
